It’s 12-21-2012; do you know where your Consciousness is?

9 Mar

So a few weeks ago my brother, Cody Howard and I were laughing about Facebook and how it is changing the way we live. I predicted that people will start grouping together physically because of their ability to virtually connect with others based on interests.  He replied: That is all going to end come 2012.

I knew he was referring to the hyped Mayan calendar that states that 12/21/2012 is the end of days.  My immediate religious thought is, “Only God knows when the world is ending and I am told it will be when we least expect it, so be ready for the Coming always. Period. Oh and until then—live/love like there’s no tomorrow. Final Period.”

Mayan CalandarBut, my curiosity got the best of me, so I wanted to read what the Mayans are actually predicting to happen come December 21, 2012 vs. what Hollywood has created.

So I went to the most reliable of sources to find out…the internet ;) .

The first site I happened on was written by Mr. John Q. Paranoia. So I quickly went back to my Google search after a hearty laugh and a silent hope that he has since slept and is once again taking his meds.

The next site was really, really interesting: http://www.exitmundi.nl/Maya.htm.

Here are the nuggets that jumped out at me:

  • The Maya’s had an extremely complicated method of keeping track of time, based on three separate calendars. The most important, most encompassing of these calendars holds the `Long Count’: the period from the beginning until the end of time. And on December 21st 2012, the Long Count expires. It will be point zero. Time will be up for the Universe. It will be, literally, the end of days. (more…)

How to make the transition from a Virtual Assistant to an Online Business Manager

24 Jan

Many virtual assistants and other service based professionals ask me, “How did you make the transition from an internet marketing virtual assistant to an online business manager?”

My answer is because I wanted to.  As a virtual assistant, my goal was to go from doing menial tasks for a client to growing into larger roles with them. I dug it when a client gave me a complete overview of what needed to be done and trusted that I could make it happen.

But there was a dark side to this, too. I began to work longer and longer hours because I was getting paid a basic virtual assistant rate (read under-paid! ;) to do more and more for each of my clients.  If I brought up raising my monthly retainer with my client, they’d stated they weren’t ready for an online business manager. But they sure appreciated all my expert help and would really love it if we could just continue on ‘as is’ and talk about it later.

Why I Unfriended You on Facebook

7 Dec

Hi there, I joined Facebook to connect with Friends, Family, and Like-minded people from all over this Earth. I enjoy browsing Facebook during the mornings and periodically throughout the day and catching up with you. However, your posts are irritating me; therefore for one of the reasons below, I have decided to remove you from my friends on Facebook.

You are addicted to Farmville.

Facebook FarmvilleIf you’re constantly raving about your carrots, bragging about how great of a virtual neighbor you are and requesting your friends send you cobs-of-corn, I question your sanity. I’m not sure how long you’ve been chasing the rabbit and it’s just unpleasant to watch.

I mean seriously…we are talking about a fictional farm you have to pay to “grow”.
